Let Your Garage Welcome Guests for the Holidays

  • December 15, 2017

We’re well into the holiday season, and decorating your home to welcome the holidays is probably on your mind. Don’t forget that your garage door is one of the first things people notice about your home. And, the interior of your garage is often on display. Here are some ideas for the outside and inside of your garage that include everything from door lettering to garage cabinets!

Outside: Decorate the Garage Door

Your garage door gives you an excellent place to make a splash with your holiday decorating.

Christmas Murals

You can be bold and tell a story on your garage door with a mural that covers the entire door. These murals can be made from either magnetic decals or roll-up versions. Designs are available that show a Christmas tree or Santa Clause themes, to name just a couple options.

Lettering

Do you have a holiday message you want to share? Magnetic or self-adhesive letters are available in a variety of fonts to make your holiday greeting stand out. You can go traditional with Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, or use your favorite holiday greeting that reflects your personality.

Lights

Holiday lights always get some attention. But don’t stop at merely stringing lights across the garage door. It’s easy to use outdoor lights, self-adhesive hooks, ornaments, bows and fishing line to make a Christmas tree on your garage.

First, wash the door, then use the hooks and lights to make an outline of the tree. Use a large bow as a tree-topper, and use the fishing line to distribute the ornaments within the tree outline. When you turn on the lights at dusk, your garage goes from funky to fantastic.

Give Your Neighborhood a Present

Who doesn’t like to see wrapped gifts around the holidays? It’s easy to make your garage door a standout by wrapping it up like a present. Use thick ribbon to mimic the cross of ribbon around a present, then add a huge bow at the center. As a final touch, add a large gift tag. It’s an inexpensive way to show your holiday spirit.

Inside the Garage

Make the inside of your garage as welcoming as the outside. Not only will the interior of your garage look great when the door is open, but you’ll also get a warm welcome any time you park your car.

Garage Cabinets

What makes your garage look like you’re eternally preparing for a garage sale? It’s all the “stuff” that the garage holds. You probably have things propped against the walls or hanging from the ceiling. Gardening equipment is stacked in piles and last year’s Christmas decorations are poorly labeled in boxes that are just barely holding together. What’s the answer? Garage cabinets.

Garage cabinets help you organize everything you need to store in the garage, and they give your garage a clean look since all the individual items are hidden from sight. Cabinets are available in a variety of sizes and finishes that are tailored to your storage needs.

Designer Epoxy Floors

Garage floors are usually another eyesore. Using a designer epoxy floor will make your garage look like it’s part of the place you call home. The coating seals and protects typical concrete floors to provide a stain-resistant surface that looks great. You can use solid color coatings in a wide range of colors. For a bit of extra flair, consider decorative chip garage floor coatings. These coatings start with a solid color, then add chips and flecks of several other shades, creating a textured terrazzo effect.
